For many combat veterans of the Vietnam War, surviving the war in country was just the start.

Ed Ramon was a highly decorated combat pilot, having survived two tours of duty in Vietnam and earned dozens of air medals, The Distinguished Flying Cross and a nomination for the Medal of Honor. He was among the best when it came to combat, but when it came time to deal with combat experiences post-war, he needed help. The first mental health professional he saw advised he simply “forget the war”. Upon hearing that he threw a chair through the window and was committed to the mental health wing. He emerged determined to heal his own condition and assist other combat veterans with their own experiences with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. This is his story.

Chris Brady is author of “Remembering Firebase Ripcord”, which details the longest battle of the Vietnam War, pitting the 101st Airborne Division against tens of thousands of North Vietnamese regulars as the division instituted a media blackout in the wake of combat at Dong Ap Bia, or Hamburger Hill. He also authored “We Answered the Call”, a Vietnam-based novel, and has been recognized by the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association (Keystone Award), the Central Pa. ACLU (Journalism Award), American Red Cross (Community Impact Award), and Marine Corps League of Williamsport for his work in telling the stories of combat veterans, specifically those from the Vietnam War. An Appalachian State University graduate, he lives in Central Pa. with his wife, Kay, and children, Justis and Katlyn. He is managing editor at The Standard-Journal, Milton, Pa.
