Protect Your Copyright with Official Copyright Registration
According to the U.S. Copyright Office, copyright law protects a literary work once it is placed in a tangible medium such as a manuscript, digital download edition, or even a word processor file. Nevertheless, many authors choose to secure their copyright officially with the U.S. Copyright Office as registration establishes a public and searchable record of their claim.
With the purchase of the optional U.S. Copyright Registration service, Outskirts Press will handle all the details involved in officially registering your copyright with the U.S. Copyright Office on your behalf.
Your copyright will be officially registered on the date the Copyright Office receives all necessary information. Once your application has been processed, the Copyright Office will mail a Copyright Certificate directly to you. Your copyright will last for your lifetime plus 70 years.
As the owner of a U.S. copyright, you will have the exclusive right to authorize the following for your book:
- Reproduction of all or part of your work in other forms
- Sale, distribution, and commercial use
- Creation of derivative works including adaptations, sequels and translations
- Transfer of your interest in the copyright or the granting of licenses for its use
- Pursuit of infringement restitution should you ever need to
We encourage every author to file for official copyright registration so you are ready and able to pursue all opportunities the future may bring for you and your book.
