Hi, my name is Jamie Belt, and I’m a Senior Publishing Consultant with Outskirts Press, where I specialize in helping authors bring their stories to life.
I live in Illinois with my husband and a mischief (yes—that’s the official term!) of very spoiled rats. I’m an avid reader who also loves writing, cooking, crafting, and fitness. My perfect weekend morning starts with a quick run and a stroll through one of our local farmers’ markets.
I’m also a proud mom of three grown children and grandma to ten amazing grandchildren, from babies to adults. When I’m not helping authors, you’ll probably find me crocheting, practicing my knitting, or diving into a great sci-fi or fantasy story.
I’ve been part of the Outskirts Press family since 2012, and in that time, I’ve had the privilege of helping nearly 4,000 authors achieve their publishing dreams. As a writer myself, I understand the excitement and challenges that come with creating a book. That firsthand experience allows me to guide my clients with empathy, clarity, and confidence as they choose the publishing path that’s right for them.
Over the years, I’ve worked with authors across many genres—fiction, self-help, poetry, memoir, religious and spiritual, business, travel, humor, and juvenile fiction and non-fiction. What happens during the consultation?
During our consultation, we’ll talk about your book and your goals for it. We’ll discuss your budget and the elements that matter most to you so I can focus our resources where they’ll have the greatest impact. I’ll also answer any questions you have about self-publishing and how Outskirts Press can support you every step of the way.
By the end of the call, you’ll have a clear, personalized publishing plan. I’ll email you a custom quote that outlines everything we discussed, so you know exactly what to expect — no surprises, no pressure. Once you accept the quote, we’ll begin bringing your book to life.
The consultation is completely free and designed to give you clarity, whether or not you decide to publish with us.
Do I need a finished manuscript to book a call?
No, your manuscript doesn’t need to be finished to schedule a consultation. In fact, many authors reach out while they’re still writing or revising. If you’re close to completion, that just allows me to make more specific recommendations for publishing packages, services, and next steps.
Many authors even use the purchase of their publishing package as a motivating milestone to finish their final draft and confidently step into the publishing process.
You don’t need to have it all figured out first — that’s exactly what the consultation is for.
When will I get my manuscript review?
If you send me your manuscript file, our review team can complete a preliminary review for acceptance at no cost.
If you’d like a full editorial manuscript review — including recommendations for book size, format, design, editorial guidance, and marketing strategies — simply place a fully refundable $35 down payment. This amount is applied to your publishing package if you decide to move forward. If not, we’ll refund it in full.
If the review is ready before our consultation, we’ll go through it together on the call. If you request it afterward, we can schedule a quick follow-up or I can answer your questions by email — whichever works best for you.
