Martin shares that Hilde had been the second great love in his life after his high school sweetheart Ingrid Mertens. When Frank inquires, his father talks about this girl and that they had lost contact after her family had moved to another region in Germany. When they look at old photo albums, Frank sees a few pictures of his dad standing next to a very beautiful girl. His father confirms that it was Ingrid.
Frank becomes intrigued about this girl and wonders if she is still alive and if so, where she lives. Being a pilot for American Airlines, he contacts a German detective agency after a flight to Frankfurt and requests to begin a search for her. Their findings lead to events that result in surprising developments. A touching story about first love remains forever.
