Product description...

Explore five decades of early American history in an epic saga of three young friends living through dangerous times.

Spanning the decades of 1820 to 1860—a period of great conflict and achievement in the United States—It Will Take A War follows three young Americans as they weave themselves into the American fabric through circumstance, adventure, and opportunity.

The novel takes the reader across the continent and through events that defined our country and carried it forward. Jim Morgan learns his trade and makes his fortune on the great rivers of the west in the new and exciting era of steamboats. Jacob Hicks has devoted his life to eradicating the practice of slavery, and Little Bird is a one of the slaves he and Jim have smuggled to the North, where she teaches at a school for less fortunate girls. Their lives are intertwined and set against the backdrop of the tragic Indian Removal Act of 1836 and a political system whose only response to improving the lives of over four million slaves is “It would take a war.”
