Author Information...

Craig BrownCraig W. Brown, was born in Long Beach, California in 1942. He graduated from Newport Harbor High School, and went on to UCLA for a A. B. in Political Science in 1965. He received his Juris Doctorate from Hastings College of the Law, in 1968, and passed the California State Bar Exam in 1968, to begin practice as a Deputy District Attorney with the Riverside and Los Angeles District Attorneys Offices (1969-71). He went into private practice in Oakland, California in 1971, and removed his offices to Sausalito in 1982, where he practiced until 2003. In addition to his continuing to practice law, he was briefly Executive Director of the Gold Coast Innovation Center in Ventura County in 2003-04. He moved to Lake Arrowhead, California in 2004, and retired in 2019 after 50 years of law practice. An avid mariner with over 40,000 miles of “sea time”, his first book recounts his 40 years of experiences, and “tales from the sea”. He has been heavily involved in the administration of yachting including being Commodore of the Sausalito Yacht Club (1984), the Pacific Coast Yachting Association (1996), President of the IMS Owners of SF Bay (1991-3), Chairman of the National Offshore Council of US Sailing (2001-04), as well as a former Member of the Board of Transpacific Yacht Club, and US Sailing Board of Directors (1993-2005). He held “non-resident” status with the Long Beach Yacht Club for 17 years, and is also a member of the Fullerton Yacht Club. A rabid UCLA Bruin, he was President of the SF Bay Area Bruins Alumni Association (1983), and the first Chairman of the Bay Area Chapter of the UCLA Chancellor’s Associates for a 2 year stint. When he moved to Lake Arrowhead, he maintained a position with the UCLA Mountain Bruins Board for over a decade. While attending UCLA he was elected President of the Associated Men Students, The Yeomen Honorary Society, and the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity and recipient of a UCLA Alumni Scholarship. He is now retired, living in Southern California, and still has a boat in St. Petersburg, Florida. He is the father of one child, Lara M. Brown, Phd, a Professor at George Washington University in Washington, DC.
