Product description...

THUD. THUD. THUD.

We are in the groove, our pace set—the honor of who rings the bell decided—when the beat of something approaching grabs our attention and disrupts our Halloween pursuit.

Thud. Thud. Thud!

A truly spooky but safe author-illustrated read-aloud!

Dark, rhythmic prose and atmospheric, hand‑painted, moonlit collage bring Poor Farm Meadow to life as a gentle ghost story with spine‑tingling suspense and a touch of colonial history. Perfectly pitched for young readers, this spooky—but not scary—adventure follows a diverse gang of six as they cross shadows, face a pulsing moment of stranger danger, and discover that curiosity can be as thrilling as fear. Dressed up as a mystery, the story pulls a boat, a lion, a witch, a clown, a Dalmatian, and a tube of toothpaste toward an unforgettable visitor encounter. A once‑in‑a‑generation ghost tale destined to be read by flashlight under the covers, shared at community pumpkin glows, added to seasonal classroom shelves, and passed down.

Author Information...

Cynthia Centerbar grew up in Vermont, not far from an old farm. Sometimes, while running through its meadow, she heard crying from the empty barn. On warm summer nights, she’d listen to the soft beat outside her window and imagine it was spooks, playing in the moonlight.

Then, on a blustery night in 1996, while parading house to house something wonderfully mysterious happened—something that made her heart go thump, thump, thump. Ever since, she has wondered about the strange visitor she and her friends encountered that Halloween night.
