The lesson was hard for Lamontt to learn and it took many years of blood, sweat, and tears, but the lesson learned was: NEVER let your past hold you back. It doesn’t matter what you’ve done or what you haven’t done with your life. If you’re above ground and can get out of bed and think, you CAN change and change for the better. You don’t have to be “special” or gifted to succeed. In fact, working hard and having a strong will to change will always outdo or at least catch up with someone with talent alone. How can a poor boy with no exceptional academic, athletic, or artistic talent or skill, raised by a single mother in the ghetto, become a formidable gangbanger in and out of juvenile detention centers, a high school dropout, a drug dealer, a person sent away to the federal penitentiary for five years at the age of nineteen turn it all around and become an attorney working for a prestigious law firm? If Lamontt can make it, there is no excuse for you not to.
