The fee supports the distribution and fulfillment services that keep your book available after publication.
Worldwide Distribution & Availability
Your fee supports worldwide wholesale distribution and print-on-demand availability for your physical book. This allows your title to remain available through major online retailers such as Amazon and Barnes & Noble, as well as through INGRAM's ordering and wholesale network.
Printing, Sales & Royalty Support
The fee also supports your book's ongoing print-on-demand availability, including copies ordered through your Author Center, along with the continuing tracking, reporting, and processing of book sales and author royalties.
Why Is This Fee Charged?
INGRAM charges publishers an annual fee for the books they distribute, and publishers account for these ongoing costs in different ways. Outskirts Press is up front about the Annual Distribution Subscription Fee by identifying it in our contract and clearly stating the fee.
Some publishers incorporate distribution costs into lower royalties or higher author copy prices. Outskirts Press instead charges the fee directly and equally while allowing authors to receive 100% of their author royalties.
The Fee Applies to Each Physical Format
The Annual Distribution Subscription Fee is assessed separately for each physical format of a published book. Because paperback and hardback formats are distributed separately by INGRAM, each format has its own annual fee. A single paperback format, for example, is $35 per year. A book available in both paperback and hardback is assessed one fee for each format.
When is the Distribution Fee Due?
Outskirts Press bills authors in January at the start of the first full calendar year following publication. For books published near the end of the calendar year, Outskirts Press covers the upcoming annual fee as a courtesy.
Payment is due on or before January 31 to avoid late fees.
