Book Excerpt

I believe this is a funny excerpt that shows Harry was one of kind:

Trip to Beulah Beach Conference

Every summer, the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church has two Sundays for the Bible & Missionary Conference at Beulah Beach in the afternoon. One week is a missions conference and the other is a general Bible conference. This is the church our family always faithfully attended every week growing up. Beulah Beach was always special for those in that denomination. It is just west of Vermilion, Ohio, right on the lake. The services were held in the tabernacle and if you turned to the right, you could watch the boats on the lake.

Many retired people bought cottages that were on the property and lived there all year round. Others rented cabins (what looked like little shacks to me) or stayed in the “hotels” (bigger shacks).

There were four of us kids, Pam, Michelle, John and me. Somehow, my mom and dad let us take my friend, Toni, along. She was all excited to go with us. It was going to be a very special Sunday! It was only about an hour drive with my dad (he was always on the slow side), but for our family, that was a very long trip. We didn’t travel very much.

We got there, the place was packed! They don’t really have a parking lot, people just park on the grass wherever there is room. All the spots were taken except for some front lawns of the people who lived there all year round. My mom’s telling him to park here or there, and he’s saying, “no, it’s not right to park on people’s grass. I’m not going to park there. We’ll just go back home.” And that’s exactly what we did!

My mom was so embarrassed because we had Toni with us too. We stopped at McDonald’s on the way home and I just thought it was too funny! He was really one of a kind!
