Get Your Book in Brick-and-Mortar Bookstore Locations

If you're like most authors, you dream of seeing your book on the shelves of bookstores around the country—or even around the world. Believe it or not, this dream can be a reality with the right level of effort and marketing.

There are four things that a self-published book needs to have in order to increase the likelihood of brick-and-mortar bookseller interest:

  • Your book must be fully-returnable—which means you must purchase our Retail Returns service.
  • Your book should have at least a 50% trade discount (Price Plan 50) and some stores require a 55% trade discount (Price Plan 55).
  • You must have a proven book sales history.
  • You must have a solid book marketing plan (if you don't have one, you may want to consider booking time with one of our Book Marketing Specialists).

Following these recommendations doesn't guarantee that buyers from the major bookstores will be interested in carrying your book, but it certainly increases your odds.

NOTE:
We recommend purchasing this option before your book is published.  It can be added after publication but it may take a while for bookstore databases to update with this information as their systems are not used to returnability status changes.

Brick-and-mortar bookstores require book returnability to consider a book for in-store stocking—make sure your book has everything it needs to succeed.
