Stanford botany professor Aldous Barkly had settled into an uneasy retirement when he got a call from his former assistant, Osgood Trotter. Barkly and Trotter had navigated a world where dogs, properly known as canines, lived alongside their human counterparts on an almost equal footing. Trotter’s canine ranch hand, Pedro Barranca, had been wrongly accused of murdering the president of the Citizens Bank of Paso Robles. Trotter’s belief that Barranca was framed and that only other canines could help him out drew Barkly out of his routine and into a web of intrigue and danger. Tom Polakiewicz was born and raised in San Diego, and graduated from the University of California, San Diego. He spent time in the U.S. Coast Guard and practiced law for thirty years.
