Product description...

Nothing but the Truth

The Chippewa River in Minnesota has a rich history deeply entwined with the region’s indigenous heritage and development of the area. The river was named after the Ojibwe (Chippewa) people, and the river’s name was given by the Dakota. They referred to it as “Manya Wakan,” which translates to “remarkable or wonderful bluffs.” The Chippewa River’s history has an everlasting impact on its name and the river itself, and on the development and identity of Chippewa County and western Minnesota. Every place has a story to tell. Crime in Chippewa County, Minnesota tells the tales of courageous pioneers, notable places, special events, and crimes of all sorts, which are the heart of the county’s history from the 1850s to the 1930s—including murders, burglaries, a stabbing, an accidental poisoning, a mysterious suicide, a salacious scandal, a fatal train wreck, an escape of a criminal, gang activities, and much more. These are just a few of the stories that shaped Chippewa County, but there are many more waiting to be discovered among the dusty archives.
