Product description...

Something’s Fishy is a simple story that describes a complex issue, the introduction and spread of invasive carp in the Mississippi River and its tributaries. What started out as a management solution has turned into an ecological nightmare. It could get worse. If bighead and silver carp enter the Great Lakes, they would likely disrupt a multi-billion dollar commercial and recreational fishing industry. However, the situation could improve if people at home and abroad learned how to eat them. Although not a permanent fix, consumption is a healthy and delicious way to address this problem. Bon appétit.

Dr. Morgan allows readers of all ages a way to understand complex ecological ideas using simple language. The fabulous illustrations add to the story, leading to a heartfelt message. It’s a thoughtful way to address a serious problem. Mark and Limei, thanks for bringing the best of humanity along for the ride.

~ Kevin Irons, Assistant Chief of Fisheries
Illinois Department of Natural Resources

Something’s Fishy is a well written and beautifully illustrated book about Asian carp. The story discusses environmental challenges and sustainable solutions that address food security. One of those is consumption since these fish contain a variety of nutrients that are ideally suited for human growth and development.
~ Dr. Kiruba Krishnaswamy, Assistant Professor
Sustainable Food Systems Engineering, University of Missouri

This fun, yet insightful book offers a humanitarian solution to a fishy problem in the Midwest.
~ Professor Henry Hughes, author of Back Seat with Fish
English Department, Western Oregon University

Native fish species in Missouri are declining due to the overabundance of Asian carp in our waterways. Flying fish can hurt people and damage boats. Eating these invaders is a delicious way to address the problem, one bite at a time!
~ Tyler Schwartze, Executive Director
Conservation Federation of Missouri
