The championships had been numerous, but now comes the afterwards.
The state of Texas had been made aware of a new era when the 1970-1973 Junction Trojans came on the scene. A five man coaching staff and a dedicated and very talented group of athletes collided in the little community nick named the “dusty little crossroads to nowhere” by a sportswriter in San Angelo. In the following four years they won one hundred and twenty-seven athletic contests, twelve consecutive district championships, nine bi-district championships, seven area championships, four regional championships, two state semi-final championships, and five state championships. As lofty as that was, the one notable headline came in 1973 when this one school won all four state championships in one year. The state of Texas took notice. Now with that class of 1973 gone and all of those exceptional athletes off to college, came the next group of Junction athletes. One year under the old regime of coaches and the first year of a new head coach and his staff. Would a tradition prevail and what new would the community expect and accept as success? Only time would tell.
