Exalting God Only or Edging God Out?
Given our individual personalities, life experiences, the strength of our faith’s commitment and even our inner struggle with our carnal nature, we sometimes make unwise decisions which displease God and which impact our relationships. Each and every Christian believer is challenged to exalt God in his/her thoughts, decisions, and actions; this includes those actions which impact our own household as well as those actions which impact the harmony within a congregation along with its reputation within their community. Today we are seeing an increasing number of local churches which are dwindling in membership along with the growing number of the formerly churched who have left our congregations due to unhealthy drama, misunderstanding and even the inappropriate actions sometimes taken against pastors. One of the reasons I myself have left retirement and returned to the local pastorate is the need for qualified, experienced pastors being needed due to a decline in clergy year after year. We must remember that the church is His church and that we are to be recognized as His people both within and outside the congregation. I share numerous illustrations about the positive witness which exalts God and stands in sharp contrast to those persons who edge God out and who thereby become a significant reason for faith’s declining influence. One chapter is devoted to the undiscussables which are a major contributor to this decline.
