Doc Regan’s foibles, often published in Small Craft Advisor and Messing About in Boats, have led many yachters to believe Latitudes and Attitudes publisher, Bob Bitchin, that he is indeed, “The World’s Worst Sailor Still Alive to Tell the Tale”. Some sailors claim he sails inverted as often as he does upright. When writer and boat builder, Mississippi Bob Brown talks about Regan, he shakes his head and says, “No one is that stupid. Even in Iowa”. This collection humorously presents the sardonic adventures of a former professor and university dean attempting to sail.

Doc Regan is a prolific writer concerning maritime and nautical affairs. He taught himself how to sail after he retired. Holding a doctorate in educational psychology, he was a professor and university dean before dedicating himself to naval history. He is the biographer of Admiral Frank Jack Fletcher and wrote the history of Upper Iowa University. He and his Finnish-born wife, Marianne Unnaslahti, live in Cedar Rapids, IA.
