William W. Yotis received his PhD degree from Northwestern University. He is currently Professor Emeritus of Microbiology and Immunology at Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine, and for the past 22 years served as Professor of Microbiology & Molecular Medicine at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine. He was appointed Visiting Scientist at the Argonne National Laboratory, MIT, and the University of Athens Medical School in Greece. He served on the Editorial Board of two journals published by the American Society of Microbiology known as Infection and Immunity and Applied and Environmental Microbiology. Dr. Yotis was honored to be the organizer, chairman and editor of an international conference on staphylococci sponsored by the New York Academy of Science in 1974. His research on staphylococci and other microorganisms yielded over 80 peer review publications and was supported by the NIH, U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, and various pharmaceutical companies. He has authored eight books: Appleton & Lange, Review of Microbiology & Immunology, four editions published in 1989, 1993, 1997 and 2001 respectively; McGraw-Hill, Outline Review of Microbiology and Immunology published in 2004; Fundamentals of Medical Microbiology and Immunology published in 2012; Relevant Examinations and Answers with Explanations, 2012; Outskirt Press, Problem Solving Exercises for Microbiological and Immunological Diseases published in 2012. Furthermore, he was asked to be the contributor of the chapter on microbiology in four books authored by the following professors: Dr. Mark Schultz, Appleton & Lange’s Review for Flex, 2nd Edition, 1990; and Appleton & Lange’s Review for the United States Medical License Examination (USMLE), Step 3; Dr. Thomas K. Barton, Appleton & Lange’s Review for the USMLE, Step 1, 2nd Edition, 1996; Dr. Samuel Jacobs, Appleton & Lange’s Review for the USMLE, Step 3, 3rd Edition, 2001.
