A Troublesome Journey

Bent and Broken: Journey of a Medical Student is the poignant story of a St. Louis University medical student who unexpectedly faces a mental malady when about to graduate, and how he fights his way out of it pushing aside the terrible social stigma, and succeeds in graduating in time. The woman who left him for fear of his illness returns to his life, after her father’s untimely death and mother’s mental breakdown. One Sunday afternoon, they took a stroll through the Saint Louis botanical garden, sat on a bench close together in the Japanese section, watching the people passing by. She chose this moment to reveal her secret, “Pete, I have a surprising news for you.” The book is educational to the public at a loss what to do while encountering their own or loved one’s emotional problems.

Dr. Jos is a Professor at St. Louis University, St. Louis and Director of Tele-psychiatry at Comtrea, a large nonprofit health organization in Missouri. He has trained hundreds of medical students and residents in his professional career and received twice the department’s best teacher award. He is author of several books, and scientific articles in prestigious medical journals.
