A Choice

I’m fighting for my mental health and want to tell you what you already know:

That it is hard.

And I can also tell you something that you probably do not know:

That it is worth it.

Do you remember when you were younger,

When it was time to wake up and you were up and out of bed minutes before the

alarm?

Or those times when you were able to let yourself go and have that amazing belly laugh,

Not caring how you look or who’s even around?

That is recovery.

How freeing does that sound?

Imagine a world, your world, filled with those moments—

The remarkable feeling of pure happiness,

The everlasting trait of strength.

At this point in time it may seem so far in the distance,

But do not mistake what it is distant from.

Recovery, that freeing feeling? That’s around the corner.

Your eating disorder, that illusion of being safe? That’s within arms’ reach.

Now there’s a choice.

Go up the mountain for the bigger and better view,

Or stay where you are and never know just how life-changing the other view is.


Writing about yourself in a positive way is weird, and such a glorious challenge.
