This book started out as a collection of memories, of stories that bring us to laughter or to tears – and not for the first time. But it took on a life of its own when the stories became lessons learned. Recalling what happened, and why, brought insight into who I am and why I became the person I am today. As an educator, I see value in sharing these lessons, not because they are history, but because they foretell a future that inevitably will be filled with endless waves of sea change. That is how life came at us. For the past nine decades we have been survivors. Our voyage has taken us through stormy weather and calm seas. But all storms pass, and we continue to cheer in unison at word that the destination is in sight. Land Ho!
