One Mile at a Time tells the story of John and his son, Cameron. It’s a father’s perspective on raising an autistic child with severe delays and difficulties, offering a poignant, unfiltered view of a dad and husband trying to come to grips with the challenges of autism—from trials to triumphs, and from a fractured relationship in the beginning to an unbreakable bond.

John shares his experiences—both delightful and difficult—to help other parents of kids with special needs know that they are not alone. “Like a roller-coaster ride, life with Cameron has had its ups and downs, its twists and turns. John Leachman is from Bentonville, Arkansas. After John and his wife, Lisa, had their first child, Mya, they were thrust headfirst into the world of autism with the birth of their son in 2001. Cameron, now a young man, has faced significant developmental delays throughout his life, and John’s journey with Cam has been one of trial and error, mistakes and missteps, and lessons learned. One Mile at a Time is his debut book.
