John Hawken, a mountain man, worked at Fort Bent as a gunsmith after the fur trade ended. There, he and Lidia fell in love. This is the true story of their tempestuous life together, fraught with danger, adventure and romance.

Thr first time I heard the story of my great grandparents, I was a little girl. Now 90 years later I wrote the story. At present I am writing the story of the family that lived on the Merced River, in California.
