Chronicles 20+ years in the lives of one autistic family

Luke and Kate are both nonverbal and diagnosed with “classic” autism. They have always been in self-contained public school placements. This is not a miracle cure book, but neither is it a wistful regret for what might have been. Everyone’s Autistic is an attempt to describe living year-to-year as an autistic family, as nonjudgmental encouragement for those who do, frank enlightenment for those who have no idea, and entertaining reading for both. Many of the current autism books focus on the early years and on the Asperger Syndrome/higher-functioning end of the spectrum. This story lays out the broader view of caring for a child and adult with autism—especially two at the lower-functioning end of the spectrum.

Jeffrey B. Romanczuk, Ed.D., has a special education masters degree and worked as a special education teacher and administrator from 2000 through 2008. His masters degree thesis is a bibliometric study on the autism etiologies in world-wide research published between 1943 and 1996. His doctoral degree is in educational administration and Dr. Romanczuk’s dissertation concerns how the parents of special needs children are involved in their school systems.
