Product description...

A Child’s Feelings about His Meltdowns from the Inside Out!

Have you ever had a feeling that your whole world is going “kerplooey,” and no one understands why? Meet Adam, an adventurous five-year-old and expert on all things dinosaurs, who has had many of those moments. In a few short words, Adam explains the fundamental workings of his Asperger’s brain. He vividly depicts what is going on inside his head. This book is a good conversation starter for young children to discuss similarities and differences in how they and others deal with day-to-day situations. It doesn’t take long to figure out that they also have meltdowns and tantrums just like Adam. Sharing Adam’s story will help children and their parents become more accepting of all types of children who interact with theirs. Once parents, teachers and children openly discuss what to expect when a “meltdown” is coming, things become less scary and more controllable. Adam will have many new adventures as he tries to navigate different life situations. Stay tuned for Adam’s next revelation as to how his brain works and what his needs are.

Author Information...

Eileen KaplanThe Author Eileen Kaplan has been an early childhood educator for over 30 years. In her role as school director, she has become a strong advocate for integrating special needs students within the typical preschool setting. Many children have touched Mrs. Kaplan’s heart through the years, but one little boy left an indelible mark. This child taught Eileen about the fundamental workings of his Asperger’s brain. Mrs. Kaplan said, “I have read many books and attended numerous workshops and seminars on Autism and Asperger’s, but in a few short words this little boy explained clearly what was happening inside his head.” After her retirement from the day-to-day school setting, Mrs. Kaplan knew she wanted to tell this story. She has done several teacher and parent workshops and shared Adam’s story. She wrote the narrative to the book and shared it with her three young grandchildren, Jack, Ella and Wynn. All three loved hearing the story and wanted Grammie to tell it over and over. The more they listened; they realized they too knew children just like Adam. It was a good conversation starter to discuss similarities and differences in children and their behavior. Mrs. Kaplan hopes that through Adam and the Circuit Board, youngsters and their parents will become more accepting of all types of children who come into their lives.
