Al Gotay, Ed.D.During his tenure as the commanding officer and chairperson of the Physical Education Unit of the New York City Police Department, Dr. Gotay developed modern training programs that were consistent with emerging health and physical fitness standards. He has also developed police and fire service assessment programs for public service agencies including the State of Rhode Island and the New York State cities of New Rochelle, Rye, Yonkers, and White Plains. Dr. Gotay has developed a unique model for identifying training needs for police candidates. Known as ‘Predictive Models for Police Physical Tests’ it is described in detail in this publication. Dr. Gotay is an Associate Professor of Health and Physical Education in the City University of New York’s John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
