Alvin S. Hodge Jr.Alvin S. Hodge Jr., a native of St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands is a Ret. Detective Sergeant/Forensic Specialist. During his tenure with the US Virgin Islands Police Department, he was the Supervisor of the Forensic Unit. He was also the Forensic Science Instructor at the Police Academy for a period of 25 years and has testified as a Fingerprint Expert in both US District Courts of the Virgin Islands and Her Majesty’s Magistrate & High Courts in the British Virgin Islands. Shortly after retiring from the police department a month short of being promoted to the rank of lieutenant ( must serve 2 years to retire at that rank), he was employed by The U.S. Customs Service as a US Customs Inspector and subsequently a Fingerprint Analyst/Lead worker with The Florida Department of Law Enforcement at their headquarters in Tallahassee, Florida. In the U.S. Army, he served most of his tour in Orleans, France and thereafter served in The United States Army Reserve. After fulfilling his obligation, he received an Honorable Discharge. He is a Graduate of the Institute Of Applied Science (Scientific Crime Detection), The Delehanty Institute Police Science ( N.Y.), attended a Forensic Science class given by The Law Enforcement Officers Training School in cooperation with The Federal Bureau Of Investigation on site in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Sirchie’s Fingerprint Laboratories in Crime Scene Technology (N.J.) and The National Institute of Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice- Executive Course-Seminar on The Enhancement of Methods Used in Field Investigations (N.Y.). Trained with the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department in the areas of The Medical Examiner’s Office, Firearm’s Examiners Section, Crime Scene Unit, Fingerprint Examiner Section and The Mobile Crime Lab. While visiting his spouse relatives in Toronto, Canada, he was allowed to train with The Metro Toronto Police Department (Automated Fingerprint System). At the Ontario Provincial Police, He also learned to perform certain tests using British forensic equipment. In 1969, I was employed at the UNITED NATIONS as a Security Officer, under the auspices of ANGIE BROOKS, The President of the General Assembly. The main speaker was President Richard M. Nixon.
He attended The College of The VI now the University of The Virgin Islands and received his Bachelor Of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Columbia Southern University , Orange Beach, Alabama. A Bachelor of Bible Theology from The International Bible Institute & Seminary in Plymouth, Florida and a Master of Divinity Degree from Faith Evangelistic Theological Seminary in Morgantown, KY. He is presently a member of The Florida Sheriffs Association and a former member of The Florida Division of The International Association for Identification.
