Author Information...

Shelly KremerI was a biologist for 3 years in the Mariana Islands. It was there that I saw my first coconut crab and the beginning of the inspiration to write this book. All the animals in the book are found in the Mariana Islands and I have incorporated each animals natural history into the story. Megapodes really do bury their eggs in volcanic soil, monitor lizards love lounging in the sun (I have plenty of pictures to prove it), and there really is a species of snail called Partula that gives live birth. Look closely and you will see native vegetation as well such as the pandanus tree, booney pepper plant, birds nest ferns and much more.

It is my hope to educate people about this rare and special place and to conserve these species for future generations to enjoy.
