Can a Pit Bull fighting dog be rehabilitated?
Riverview Animal Shelter’s Supervisor, Jane, takes a much-needed vacation. Jane leaves her assistants Ruth and Millie in charge of running the shelter. Millie, a dog-behavior expert, tries to rehabilitate a Pit Bull fighting dog, Champ. Ruth encourages Millie and at times assists in her work, and the reader learns some of Millie’s methods. Jane returns. Her life changes dramatically when she meets Doug, a dog shelter worker from Vermont. As their relationships develop, the dogs and the humans learn some important lessons about themselves and each other. This is the third in this multi-book series, following Understanding Sassie and Understanding Sassie, II. Readers can enjoy it without having read the first two. All three novels combine upbeat personal stories with insights about training dogs with affection and love.
