Ella Mae, an RN, started writing in order to encourage Gordon, a retired DEA agent, to write. He had suffered many years with PTSD, and she believed writing would be therapeutic. After they wrote a memoir of their life in Paraguay, he immediately started writing this novel. As they finished it, he finally sat down and wrote about the shootout, in which he was involved, that was the cause of his PTSD. He feels so much better and can’t understand why he didn’t do it years ago.

Book Excerpt
Joe jumped to his feet and screamed, "Accident? You bastard, I've limped in pain every day for seven and a half years for some politician's bullshit idea. I'll be damned if I am going to compromise my ethics to please some pompous ass like you. The facts are as I reported them and will remain so. If you want them changed, have some toady like Stickler or your flunky Farley sign off on your lying report. I am not going to do it and remember with Misty, once I signed the report it is locked in and no one can go back and change it over my signature." "Young man, you will change that report or else." "Admiral, you forget. This isn't the Navy; I'm not a Marine anymore. We are in the real civilian world. The only thing you could do is have me fired for some offense, but I have rights under the Civil Service and would fight you all the way to hell and back." "What's he saying, Stickler, is this true?" "Ah, I'm afraid so, Admiral. I'll have to check. I'm not too clear about this kind of stuff."
