My Testimony is a healing book to read with a deep message. In this book, Arquila Todd discusses how God used the pain in her dating relationships to get her attention and return her to Him. Throughout that process, Todd received a testimony and wrote about it to share her experiences in that journey with women and young adults.
It took me a while to read the entire book because the messages I received on some of the issues she wrote about and the lessons to be learned in those situations were in some way applicable to me or others I knew. I had to take a few hours or sometimes a day to reflect on some of the things I read.
Not only was it informative, positive, spiritual and uplifting, but it was very motivating as well. It made me do some reflecting and soul searching about the relationships and friendships in my life.
This book really iterates the importance of the presence of God in our life and at the forefront of our relationships. Many times without realizing, we make our significant others, friends or even family members the main focus of our lives, our first priority. We make our schedules and correlate our daily activities around these people. We put others first. Many people are guilty of this.
You know as well as I know if you believe the Lord is your Savior, that our God is a jealous God. So once distracted, He brings pain and chaos into our relationships so we have no choice but to turn to Him. This is His way of reminding us of things we forget like honoring the Lord, loving and respecting our selves, and obeying His word.
With Arquila, it took several failed relationships for her to see what was really going on. Once she figured it out, she took different approaches to her relationships and made God her main focus and priority always. Everything turned around and she was and is able to live a happy life with healthy relationships.
She uses Bible scriptures to recap her teachings of the lessons learned and evidence of her Lord helping her to come back to the right path. I recommend this book to all strong God-fearing women, young adults and even teenagers who have been a part of failed relationships or friendships. This book will definitely leave you thinking and reflecting on past and present relationships you have endured, and hopefully will help to make sense of why certain things happened or why they failed. I give this book a score of four out of a five.
