Question #7: What Is The Weaponry of A Worshiper? THE ARMOR OF GOD

The dimensions again are (1) dress in the whole armor of God, (2) stand, and (3) pray in the Spirit.  Paul says that this is our only safety against the trickery of satan.  He is cunning and we must prepare ourselves on three levels.  Notice that this preparation consists of us (1) Wearing the complete armor of God, (2) Doing the standing regardless of what may be confronting us, and (3) Speaking our requests to God in the spirit.

The first dimension of preparation is to dress in the armor of God.  The word dress in this instance comes from two Greek words that imply that we sink into a garment or that we invest with clothing.  We should be so thoroughly covered in God’s armor that when the enemy stands before us, most of what he sees is what we are wearing.  When we ‘invest with clothing’ we are actually investing in ourselves by the act of dressing in God’s armor.  Every time we allow God to make deposits into us by putting on His clothes, we not only increase our value, but we also increase the potential of the return on His investment or harvest.  This first dimension is an internal preparation that is intimate.  It is between God and us as He works on our inward parts.

The second dimension of preparation is standing.  The word stand used in this Greek context denotes an upright and active position.  It’s not an idle stand that is taken as if waiting impatiently for something to happen.  Paul wrote to the Corinthians, “But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.  Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.” (1 Corinthians 15:57-58)  The stand that Paul speaks of here is one of determination.  Paul encouraged the church at Corinth to stand firmly on the knowledge of victory afforded through Christ and to continue to work diligently knowing that that labor was not in vain.  We, too, must remain firmly planted on what God said and not be moved by anything that speaks contrarily to what He has already spoken to us.  We continue to work while we stand.  Our stand is our steadfast, unmovable labor for the Kingdom of God.  In this second dimension, others can see and be affected by the strength and consistency of our stand.

The key to having a committed stance is PRAYER.  This is the third dimension to preparation.  We are to pray to God.  Romans 8:26 says, “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.”  Our natural minds don’t really know what to pray.  If we pray in the spirit, the Holy Spirit will intercede for us.  Our flesh no longer controls the conversation.  And the most wonderful thing about that is the fact that satan has no idea what’s being said.  He can hear the conversation because it’s an audible one, but he cannot understand it.  This worship is directed to the Almighty God and is an oratory unto God Himself.  This conversation in and of itself is a most valuable and powerful weapon.  This third dimension is where we make our requests known to God.  These requests are totally in line with the Will of God because the Holy Spirit intercedes for us with the foreknowledge of God’s Will in mind.

Let’s look closer at the first dimension.  The six parts of the armor of God outlined in Ephesians 6 are (1) loins girt about with truth; (2) the breastplate of righteousness; (3) feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; (4) the shield of faith; (5) the helmet of salvation; and (6) the sword of the Spirit.  We make the package complete.  We are the seventh part.
