If I can do it—anyone can. How to run a marathon: Just Keep Running

When her daughter left home, she didn’t just face a quiet house—she faced a quiet heart. What began as a search for purpose at the end of a long, accomplished career turned into something completely unexpected. In fact, she had spent most of her life being impressively unathletic. Running was something other people did—fast people, coordinated people . . . people who didn’t consider “not tripping” a major victory. With an empty nest, a stubborn streak, and a Marine husband who insisted running was “the fountain of youth” (and, like most Marines, was not open to debate), she laced up her shoes and gave it a try. It wasn’t pretty; it wasn’t fast; but somehow, it worked. One mile turned into many; many turned into 26.2; and before she knew it, she had finished not just one marathon, but several. There were no trophies for speed, nor crowds chanting her name. There was just the quiet triumph of someone too stubborn to quit. Through miles of doubt, discipline, and discovery, she found more than fitness—she found resilience, purpose, and a mantra for life: Breathe. Pace yourself. Put one foot in front of the other. Just keep running. This is a story for anyone who has ever felt “not enough,” too late, or out of place, and did it anyway. Just keep running.

About the Author

Becky Condon

Becky Condon built a full life long before she ever laced up a pair of running shoes—success in the Navy, building a career in aviation, raising a daughter, and successfully navigating everything life threw her way (most of it without breaking into a jog). This is Becky Condon’s fourth novel, following She Flies, City Slicker’s Guide to Country Living, and I’ll See You in My Dreams. These days, she still runs, still moves forward, and still believes that determination will take you much farther than talent ever could.
