Holly Lynn Robinson has been writing poetry throughout her life, since high school, as her means of navigating the challenges of living life as a Black woman in America. Being of part Native American ancestry, Holly has embraced Deer, with its power of gentleness, as her Totem and Spirit Guide, and she also invokes the Spirit of the Great Mother Goddess. Her Deer and Divine Mother Spirit Guides come to her in poems introducing stages of her life: from a shy and alienated fawn descending into drugs and depression to a maturing one experiencing passionate self-awakening; from an adult doe navigating the joys and sorrows of love and loss, while learning lessons that move her from self-doubt to self-acceptance, to a mature one journeying through infertility and from menopause to motherhood and beyond. As she embraces her twilight years, guided by the Great Mother and her Spirit Doe, Holly is always seeking, ever exploring; still loving and learning her way day by day, as she continues navigating the challenges of living life as a Black woman in America. Holly is a retired law professor, who works part-time as an attorney and teaches GED prep classes to help students progress and improve their lives. She lives in Brooklyn, New York with her daughter.
