Book Details

The true-to-history heart-pounding tale of a murderous coup, a ruthless dictator, and the American professor caught in the middle.

Still mourning the loss of his wife, Dr. James White decides to pick up the pieces. He comes out of retirement, reconnects with a world-renowned professor, moves halfway around the world, and volunteers to teach at the University of Liberia in Monrovia, the country’s capital. But America’s number one ally and Africa’s most stable democracy now teeters on the brink of chaos, and White is caught in the middle. Twenty-eight-year-old Samuel Doe has seized power, is executing former government officials and his critics. Doe also endangers America’s crusade against a Russian power monopoly in Africa. But the US secret program to kill Doe has stalled—until he hires White. Torn between loyalty to Doe and leaking secrets to the CIA, White must play Janus like never before. Any missteps and he is dead. Based on true events, Peasco is a thriller that tells how a once naïve African dictator became a political genius, the United States’ struggle to silence his ten-year reign of terror, and a civil war that destabilized West Africa and fueled the rise of Al Qaeda in the continent.
