Genie in My Pocket began years ago as a project in a design class in which students were to create a book jacket cover. One day when I was de-cluttering I found the original art work. I decided to create a story to go with the book jacket. I wanted the character to create his own magic, as well as the fantastic fortune of finding a Genie. Genies may have magical powers, but so do children who have a purpose. They can be a force for positive change in their neighborhoods, as you will discover in reading the story.

Elizabeth Slenker

I got hooked on writing a few years ago when I did a series of books on therapy dogs. Dogs have a very calming affect on those whom they visit. I am also intrigued by the influence children can have on their environment. Having worked as a Family Therapist, I have learned family dynamics play an important part in a child’s journey to maturity. I have drawn on my past experience in creating this book about how children can influence the outcome of bettering their surroundings and effect change in their friends and families.
