Book Details

Will to Discover is a novel, but it is based on history as well.

Friedrich Will, an apprenticed baker, left home in 1819, at the age of 22. His home was in Schweidnitz, in the Kingdom of Prussia, which is now Germany.

Friedrich wanted to find a new life in the new country, America, which he learned was the land of opportunity.

So this is the story of an adventurous young man who traveled across Europe to board a ship to America. He found work as a baker on an American cargo ship, and landed in Baltimore, Maryland.

He spent time on the East Coast and then his will to discover led him to continue his travels across America. His experiences included seeing so much of this vast country, and meeting diverse cultures--Americans, French, Spanish, and Native Americans--until he finally settled in what is now the state of New Mexico. Follow him on this amazing journey with its drama, romance, and sights of a brand new nation forming—the United States of America.
