Tucked 15 feet up in a treestand, a deer is spotted as it slips into bow range silently from behind. The fleeting glimpses of tawny fur easing through the woods suddenly materializing close at hand gets the blood and adrenaline flowing with the anticipation of a possible shot. Sitting in the dark, awaiting dawn in a ground blind for the gobbler to sound off, from right where he roosted the night before. Hunting turkeys can strain the senses to work overtime, hoping to get the drop on a longbeard slipping by to check out the seductive hen yelps you just issued. The grunt and growl of hogs approaching the stand or blind will get the hair on the back of your neck rising as you try to keep your emotions in check. Stalking the woods and fields for game, listening for movement or calls, smelling the musky odors of amorous bucks or mud-coated boars, feeling the air currents that carry the subtle putts and purrs of a trophy tom so maddingly close but visually undetected.
