When Land Is Legacy, Surrender Is Not an Option

Michael Voight is on the brink of losing the Colorado ranch that has been in his family for three generations. All he has ever wanted is simple: to live on the land he loves and raise, train, and sell top-quality ranch horses. But powerful forces are closing in, and not everyone shares his vision for the ranch’s future. As death and murder cast long shadows across the valley, Michael finds himself fighting more than financial ruin. One determined woman has plans that threaten to transform the ranch forever—plans that leave no room for cattle, horses, or the legacy his family has built. With the mysterious deaths of his father and a neighboring rancher, fear spreads, tensions rise, and the safety of those he loves hangs in the balance. Even with the support of the local sheriff, it may not be enough to stop a ruthless campaign that could cost more than land—it could cost lives. In a gripping story of loyalty, courage, and devotion, Michael must decide how far he is willing to go to protect his family, his heritage, and the woman he loves. Set against the rugged beauty of the American West, this powerful tale explores the unbreakable bond between a man and his land—and the price of standing your ground when everything is at stake.

About the Author

Edward Friedman

Edward Friedman grew up in the beautiful Shawangunk Mountains of New York State, just miles from Lake Minnewaska. He spent much of his life exploring the Catskills and Adirondacks before retiring to the Rocky Mountains, where his lifelong love of horses and wide-open landscapes continued to shape his perspective. After a career in construction, Edward turned to writing short stories, leading to his debut novel, Horsing Around at Bear Creek, followed by The Jealous Shadow. Now living in Florida, he has traded his horse for a bicycle and enjoys exploring the world with the same adventurous spirit that fuels his storytelling.
