Janet Asiimwe grew up in Fort portal Uganda with her mother and four brothers. After Law School, Janet opted for humanitarian work, when she became Protection and Legal Officer under the Directorate of Refugees, Office of the Prime Minister in Kampala, Uganda. She underwent a protection traineeship and mentorship while attached to UNHCR Geneva Switzerland and thereafter served as Programme Officer with the East African Center for Constitutional Development in Kampala, Uganda. Janet further served as a Human Rights Advocate with Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights in Harare, Zimbabwe; joined ActionAid Uganda as a development practitioner and later the ActionAid Arab Regional Initiative under which she responded to the Syrian refugee crisis in Jordan and Lebanon. Janet additionally worked with Humanitarian Initiative Just Relief Aid (HIJRA) Uganda and is currently serving as a Field Associate with the UNHCR Uganda Operation.
