After graduating with a degree in Physical Therapy, Peter practiced on Long Island for 28 years. Following that career, he transitioned into the field of medical malpractice, becoming a professional liability specialist, analyzing lawsuits against healthcare professionals, hospitals and nursing homes. It was during his tenure as a Claims Professional that Peter first began to write, focusing on medical malpractice and risk management.
One such article, having to do with preventing bedsores, was used as part of the orientation program for a nursing home, the Dr. Susan Smith McKinney Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, in Brooklyn. It is still used today. That article, along with several others, were published in ASHRM, the journal of the American Society for Healthcare and Risk Management.
After semi-retiring in 2021, Peter began to write regularly for a community-based newspaper. Beginning with health & fitness, he expanded into business profiles and travel. He has also written acclaimed features on anxiety & depression, addiction, alcohol awareness, cancer care, school choice, human trafficking and burnout. In his work as both a claims specialist and writer, Peter has interviewed dozens of business owners, healthcare professionals and elected officials. To date, Peter has published over 85 articles.
In his first book, Fifty Things at Once, One Lesson at a Time, Peter honors his father, who immigrated to the US when he was only 17 years old. Peter describes how his dad learned a trade, served in the Army, became a US citizen, started a family, and then a business. He cites many of the lessons he learned from his dad; the importance of hard work, perseverance, family, faith, education, gratitude and respect.
In E la Storia Continua, Peter returns to Italy to visit the region of Calabria, and specifically the village of Civita, where his dad was born, taking the opportunity to reflect on his life as a second-generation Italian American.
Following the theme of his first book, there are more lessons learned, new travel destinations, and prayerful reflections, while Peter describes life as a grandparent and the incomparable value of friendship.
