Scott W. Allen

From 1984 until 1992, Scott wrote for Relix magazine, serving as a Senior Writer, columnist (“Fragments”) and feature article writer. His work with Relix is archived in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame + Museum, which has archived the first 100 issues of the magazine. Mr. Allen was commissioned by the Library of Congress to write the essay that accompanies the Grateful Dead’s concert on May 8, 1977 at Barton Hall, which was inducted into the National Recording Registry of the LOC in 2012. As a Grateful Dead historian, Scott has written a best-selling biography of the band titled Aces Back to Back: The History of the Grateful Dead that has two editions (1992 and 2014) with the most recent edition reaching No. 2 on two different Amazon best-seller lists. Scott’s Facebook blog, “Aces Back to Back,” was started in 2010 and has 40,000+ readers. His near-daily posts on a wide-range of Grateful Dead and Dead-related topics and issues attract and maintain a loyal and informed reader base. Mr. Allen taught Special Education, English, English-as-a-Second Language, and Adult Education on both the high school and college levels for 30 years. Scott coached golf on both the high school and NCAA Division I, II and III levels for 16 years. He graduated with a B.S. in Journalism (1984) from the University of Oregon and later earned an MAT in Special Education (1994) from Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY. Writing is a craft, and Scott practices his craft every day.
