Book Details

Already caring for their aged father with dementia, two baby boomer sisters find themselves unexpectedly having to deal with their mother, who long ago left their family to move far away and marry someone else. Laugh and cry your way through this story of human foibles, frailty, and finally redemption. Oh, and--sex with a cucumber!?!

Rebecca Graves' novel SECOND TIME AROUND covers ground all too familiar to so many Americans: that life juncture in which the child must step up to the plate as custodian and care-giver for an aging parent -- in this case: TWO aging parents! Graves offers her readers a story of substance, humor and nuance. Unforeseen complications unfold from this fragile dynamic, which send the reader on a journey of discovery through situations that cannot help but remind us of the most stubborn emotion of all: love for those closest to us. A wonderful read from a fine storyteller! – Mark Dunn, author of award winning novel Ella Minnow Pea

About the Author

Rebecca Graves

The author happens to be from Memphis, and happens to be the exact age of one of the two main characters, and has dealt with her own aging parents, though one at a time. (The Jamaicans were a real thing.) Unlike her character wannabe, she did move far away, to the Pacific Northwest, where she lives happily with her husband of forty-two years. She has been a teacher, neurodevelopmental therapist, and freelance writer. This is her second novel.
