Prof. Shyam Parashar retired as professor emeritus of surgery and after fifty years of practice of general surgery in India, UK and Saudi Arabia. His students, spread all over the world, admire him as a teacher and as proficient surgeon. In addition to his contributions to the profession, he has been actively engaged in social service in education and health sectors. He has been actively pursuing his passion for reading and writing. His other publications are: Twists and Turns of Destiny, biography of a freedom fighter in India; Scattered Gems, collection of poems and essays in English; Bikhre Moti, collection of poems and essays in Hindi; Surgery, the Way I Teach, a book on basic principles of surgery; Atlas of Surgery, a pictorial collection of common and rare surgical patients from his personal archives; Rhythm of Our Hearts, a book on philosophical dialogs with his daughter. He lives in Chattanooga, USA, and in Goa, India.
