It was hard to tell where the voice was coming from. It wasn’t a voice exactly, but a numerical sequence that relentlessly interrupted her thoughts. The harder Bella tried to tune it out, the more persistent it became. Finally, there was nothing left to do but try to decipher the message.

What she stumbled into pushed Bella to the edge of her understanding of the universe. She couldn’t find the words to articulate what happened. Nobody would believe her, at least on this side of life. Perhaps the only help for her existed in the invisible.

Bruce wasn’t sure whether or not to report Bella missing. She’d been unreachable for two weeks. When he arrived at her house, there was evidence of a speedy departure. What were these numbers on her desk? Where was her boat? Bruce had flown from Phoenix to Freeburg for answers and all he had now were more questions.

Something was happening to the members of the mastermind group. The psychics were receiving a common message, a psychic alarm. What did it mean? Who was sending it? How were they supposed to proceed?
