Doris Kyllo was born in Seattle, Washington, in 1925. She lived and thrived through the scarcity of The Great Depression and World War II. Along with her husband, Paul, she raised four children to carry on her legacy of an indomitable spirit. At the age of ninety-four, she lives independently and walks a couple of miles a day through the cow pastures of Ellensburg, Washington, where she finds inspiration for paintings represented by Clymer Art Gallery. Doris’s first book, Beyond the Frost, is a collection of her poetry, prose, and artwork. She developed her love for writing at an early age but has only now begun to find the time to compile them for others to enjoy.

The random recollections of a survivor of The Greatest Generation offers a glimpse into the foundations upon which the current culture was given to build or tear down.
Nearly one hundred years have passed since the author was born into a world far removed from present upheavals of American culture. Doris Kyllo’s anecdotal recollections of this bygone era through eyes unaffected by the influence of social media and fake news offers a reason for joy in the face of poverty, connection in spite of loss, and hope when darkness reigns.
