The author was born in Dallas, Texas, one year after WWII ended. When her father died, the family moved to Missouri to live with their grandparents on a small farm. While the adults struggled to hold the family together, the children collected unforgettable memories as they emerged from the protected cloud of childhood into consciousness of the world around them.
