Jerry Whitt grew up in the ranch country of Central Texas. He holds advanced degrees in both English and science from Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. Also, he has a doctorate from the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. He has worked as an instructor and administrator at Vernon College in Vernon, Texas. Also, he served in the U.S. Army, retiring in 1999 as a Lieutenant Colonel.
