An Australian government wins a landslide election in 2013 only to prove itself vastly unpopular. Fearing electoral disaster in 2016, various forces in and around the government conspire to abolish future elections. Democracy flees along with many fearful citizens, establishing a breakaway province and eventually—with the help of UN peacekeepers—a new nation state, Aricia. Stark politics? Fanciful history?
