Book Excerpt
Polvoroso knew it was now or never. He just could not find the courage to jump. He knew he was probably the only coquí in history, going all the way back to the ancient ones, who was too scared to take THE BIG LEAP. He curled up between two big leaves, trying to absorb any moisture into his quickly drying body that he could. He was also trying to hide from the big squawking, swooping birds overhead.
The morning passed and Polvoroso was still alive.
"How much longer could he survive?" he whispered to himself.
He knew he was running out of choices.
At that exact moment in his life when everything seemed hopeless, suddenly all would become perfectly clear.
Two big birds picked up one of the leaves that he was hiding under. Polvoroso darted to the other leaf and forced himself to the edge of a big branch. The birds swooped in after him.
There were no options left. He took one look down at the forest floor. He took a sideways glance at the approaching birds. He now knew it was HIS TIME to take THE BIG LEAP.
